That awkward moment when you’re catching up with an old friend and you tell them you have a baby due in August
and suddenly they have nothing else to say.
Because I’m too boring to be at a Super Bowl party.
Do you know who the babies(s) father is?
Yes.
If so, who is it?
My wonderful boyfriend.
How did you find out you were pregnant?
I get my period like clockwork and it’s always first thing in the morning, and I hadn’t gotten it that day. I had an extra one with me at school that day and was getting anxious before PE, so I took it and it said “pregnant”. I ended up having my boyfriend take me to buy two more after school and they were both positive.
What were your first symptoms?
My boobs hurt so bad, but I thought it was because I was about to get my period.
Who did you tell first?
I told the girl who had given me the pregnancy test like a week before. She saw me come out of the bathroom about to cry and she just knew haha.
Who was with you when you found out?
I was by myself.
Was the baby(s) planned?
Definitely not.
How far were you when you found out?
Four weeks, two days, according to my due date.
What was your reaction?
I was shocked. Even though I knew in the back of my mind something was up, I figured I was just being paranoid. I had an anxiety attack in the bathroom stall haha.
What was the baby(s)’s father’s reaction?
He was pretty shocked too, but really supportive. The first thing he said was “Oh wow. Well what do you think we should do?” and of course we decided to keep it.
What was the parent’s reactions?
Um, his mom was really nice but I think really worried too. And my mom freaked out for a while but I knew she wasn’t too mad, because that same day she suggested we go buy a Christmas present for my boyfriend. She’s been really supportive. His dad ignored him for three days then got over it. I told my dad over the phone and I was bawling before I could even get it out and he just said “Am I going to be a proud grandpa?” and I told him yes. He’s been pretty nice.
Due date:
August 27th.
Boy or girl?
We don’t know yet. Everyone is hoping for a boy, but it honestly doesn’t matter to me.
Any names?
We really like Halle for a girl. It means unexpected gift. We haven’t come up with a boy name we both agree on yet though.
Have you heard the heartbeat?
Nope. They tried to hear it the other day, but the baby was sitting too far back so they did an ultrasound instead.
Who do you think baby(s) will look like?
I’m hoping both of us, because we’re both pretty precious, I want it to have his skin tone though, because I’m pale and gross haha.
Will baby(s) have any siblings?:
I think we both want one more, but not for a few more years.
Have you and dad felt baby(s) move?
Not yet, but we’re both so excited.
Who will be in the delivery room?
Wyatt and my mom.
Will you use medication?
Epidural all the way.
Are you scared about labor?
I’m a little bit scared, but I know it will go fine.
How will you react when you see baby(s)?
Knowing me, I’ll probably bawl my eyes out.
Did you have morning sickness?
There were a few weeks where I was nauseous a lot, and I threw up twice but that was it. I’m pretty sure it’s gone now though, knock on wood.
Did you have any cravings?
For a while my main craving was chips, but then I found out I have gallstones, so now I can only have baked chips. Um I’ve craved chocolate milk a lot.
Did you have any mood swings?
OH. MY. GOD. Yes. They’ve gotten a little better, but from about weeks six to nine I’m pretty sure everyone hated me. Last weekend Wyatt and I were going for a bike ride and I got my yoga pants and a sweatshirt on and started bawling because “I looked so ugly”, We ended up staying home.
Formula or breastfeeding?
Breastfeeding for sure.
When did you start to show?
I’m not showing yet, I’ve actually lost a few pounds since I found out I was pregnant. However this past week I’ve started to feel a little…thicker.
Are you excited?
Absolutely. I’m nervous too. I definitely didn’t plan on being a mom at seventeen, but I know this child will be a huge blessing and I will love him or her just as much as I would if I were twenty seven.
Who will help with baby(s) after their born?
We’re really blessed because we’ll have tons of help. His parents, my parents. Both of our sisters will be great babysitters. We have good families.
What is your favorite thing about being pregnant?
There’s too many things. Knowing that I am the reason someone is going to come into this world is the main thing. It’s created a closer bond with me and Wyatt too. And my boobs getting bigger and not getting a period is pretty nice too.
What one thing do you miss doing since being pregnant?
Honestly, it might sound bad but I miss being able to drink. Like one night, my parents and my sister and her husband and Wyatt were all here playing cards and they all got to drink but I didn’t and it was frustrating. But I wouldn’t ever put my child at risk by doing something like that.
Are you ready for the baby(s)?
Oh definitely not! I could hope that we’ll be ready in August, but neither of us is going to be completely ready. We have a lot to learn and some of it can only be learned from experience.
How many kids do you want?
Most likely just two. No more than three for sure though.
Do you talk to your baby(s)?
Nope, but I definitely will when I know he or she can hear me.
Do you still feel attractive?
Sometimes. I’d say four to five times a week though I feel pretty self conscious. Part of it is because I’ve been breaking out and I feel fatter, and part of it is I just don’t try as hard as I used to.
Have you had your baby shower yet?
No. We probably will in June or July.
How many pregnant women do you know?
Just like three. One of them is a girl I had PE with, and her due date is just eight days before me.
How far along are you now?
11 weeks on Tuesday.
Also, I had my first doctor’s appointment on Friday. I didn’t expect to get an ultrasound but I was pleasantly surprised! They tried to hear the baby’s heartbeat but said it was probably sitting too far back in my uterus to hear, so they did an ultrasound instead. It was such an amazing thing to experience. I was really surprised by how much the baby already moves around. I could see its fingers and toes and it was just amazing. It made everything so much more real for me.
My next appointment is on Valentine’s Day and I’m having another ultrasound then and I’m so excited.
I started working at losing weight in the beginning of November with a goal of losing about fifty pounds. I dropped fifteen pounds, and then right before Christmas I found out I was pregnant. I think that upset me a little because I had worked so hard to see the results I had gotten, and I was so afraid that I was just going to gain it all back and then some more.
I’m eleven weeks pregnant now and have lost six pounds since I found out I am pregnant. I haven’t TRIED at all to lose weight, although it is a plus. I’ve been eating healthy and continuing my exercise routine basically as normal, and I feel great. My goal through this pregnancy is to simply stay healthy, and not gain a ton of extra fat. Not only for me, but for my child too.
